Yoga for a Better Back: Five Secrets for a Healthy, Supple Spine

Saturday, March 20, 1:00pm-6:00pm. Kelowna Studio. For all levels.

Take steps toward a happier, healthier back. Yoga teacher and movement educator Christa Rypins believes that you are as vital and vibrant as your spine is flexible. This weekend, she gives you the tools to practice yoga and other activities in a pain-free, intelligent way. You will;

  • Work with the deepest layers of abdominal muscle to make movement easy
  • Open the hips in dynamic yoga postures that help you experience the exact location of your hip joints
  • Dramatically increase hip and low-back flexibility through simple mental imagery
  • Eliminate overstretching injuries as you explore the balance of strength and flexibility through resistance stretching
  • Learn simple techniques that relax the shoulders and neck in five minutes a day
  • Access and strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor to create a foundation for spinal health.

Easy Breath, Strong Core: An Imagery and Yoga Experience

Sunday, March 21, 10:00am-4:00pm. Vernon Studio. For all levels.

Everyone knows we are supposed to breathe deeply and have a strong core, especially Yogis. Come on. But what is breathing actually? What Breathes? What exactly is the core? How do you know if you are doing it right? And are the two-the core and the breath-related?

In this workshop you will develop a clear mental picture, as well as a deep sense of the part of your body that breathes. You will learn and feel how the core muscles are actually supporting the breathing process, what the core is and how to strengthen it efficiently and effectively, and be blown away by the relaxation and strength you experience along the way. Additionally, you will discover the deepest layer of the core, what Christa calls the central channel--the diaphragm, ilio-psoas and pelvic floor. As the muscles in this deep layer soften, the whole body, including the neck and shoulders relax and the mind calms.

We will then take this picture we have of the inner workings of the body and apply our imagery to simple core strengthening and yoga poses, bringing the poses and ourselves alive from the inside out.

$80 before March 1st. $100 after March 1st.

$150 for both workshops before March 1st. $175 for both workshops after March 1st.
